Alzheimer's disease is a degenerative neurological condition that progressively impairs one's ability to perform basic tasks and causes significant memory loss and cognitive decline. This devastating illness affects millions of people worldwide, gradually eroding their independence and quality of life. While there is currently no known cure for Alzheimer's disease, several lifestyle modifications and preventive actions may help lower the risk and delay its progression.  Early detection and medical intervention, combined with these preventive measures, can significantly improve the quality of life for those at risk or in the early stages of Alzheimer's disease.

Dr Sitla Prasad Pathak, senior consultant, Neurology, Max hospital, Vaishali list down preventive measures and lifestyle modifications for Alzheimer's patients.

Healthy diet: The health of the brain can be enhanced by eating a balanced diet full of whole grains, fruits, vegetables, lean meats, and healthy fats. Particularly the Mediterranean diet has been associated with a decreased risk of cognitive deterioration. This diet places a strong emphasis on eating nuts, salmon, olive oil, and red wine in moderation.

Regular physical exercise Regular physical activity lowers the risk of Alzheimer's disease and is good for general health. Walking, swimming, and cycling are examples of aerobic exercises that enhance cardiovascular health, which is strongly associated with brain health. Maintaining muscle mass and reducing falls are two further ways that strength training and balancing activities support a healthy brain
